Nashville, TN native Jewel Burks used her previous work skills from her tenure at Google and McMaster-Carr to help create PartPic, a technology startup designed to streamline the purchase of maintenance and industrial repair parts. She also works with Google to help small business owners attract and engage customers using Google's business tools. The Atlanta based startup PartPic has raised  over $1.5 million in seed funding to integrate its proprietary technology into mobile apps and websites of parts distributors and retailers. Jewel has been featured as "One to Watch in Tech" in Essence Magazine as well as Glamour, Forbes, SmallBizTrends, Washington Post, and The Culture. In addition to her everyday work, Jewel volunteers with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Atlanta as a mentor. Partpic has won numerous national competitions including the 2015 SXSW Accelerator and Steve Case's Rise of the Rest. Burks and the PartPic team recently were able to meet President Obama at the first White House Demo Day. In her interview with SmallBizTrends, speaking on start up's, she states " I think a lot of people go into all of this and they think it’s going to just be an instantaneous; money’s flooding in because of these changes. But it really does take time. It takes understanding the metrics associated with each of these small changes you might make. That’s why I’m a really big advocate for analytics. Google Analytics, obviously, is great. And it helps people make more informed decisions about the changes that they’re making on their website. What’s actually making an impact and what isn’t. I really encourage people to follow those pieces and understanding the whole picture of what can actually impact their business over time. And understanding it is an effort that can take place over time."
